This assessment is for these students only: Gold Coast; Melbourne - Hotel School; Online; SCU Melbourne; SCU Perth; SCU Sydney; Sydney - Hotel School.

Assignment 1
Due: Thursday 29 November 2018
Length: 2,500 words
Weighting: 25%
For this assignment you will have to prepare a paper that critically discusses how organisations apply the strategic use of IS/IT to achieve IS/IT-enabled innovation (Note: you should try to focus on information systems rather than mobile apps and social media platforms & applications). Some aspects and issues you may discuss in your paper could include (but are not limited to):
• Discuss at least 4 examples of the use of IS/IT for innovation.
• Highlight some success factors or some lessons learned (i.e., what went wrong?) for your examples.

• Discuss the impacts of internal factors (e.g., organisational, individual, and management factors) and external factors (e.g., market, industry, social, economic, technological and political/policy factors) on the success (or the failure) of IS/IT enabled innovation.
• Suggest recommendations and guidelines for helping organisations succeed in their efforts to embark on using IS/IT for innovation with good explanation and discussion.
You should apply relevant knowledge discussed in your unit. You should prepare for this assignment by reviewing the literature (i.e. by using ProQuest 5000 and Science Direct databases at http://www.scu.edu.au/library/index.php/) and searching the World Wide Web (i.e. via Google). You should show evidence that you have read at least 10 references, which must be published after January 2012, in the literature (including references from academic and professional publications) to prepare this assignment. A variety of references are expected including books, refereed journals, case studies, newspapers, magazines and electronic references.
Format for Assignment 1
You will be marked on communication as well as content. This is done to emphasise the importance of aiming for effective communication as well as good content – not only here in a university assignment, but also in your day-to-day work. After all, if you do not communicate and present your ideas well, it is much harder to have your ideas accepted by busy colleagues or executives.
Your assignment should contain:
• Title page
• Table of contents
• Introduction
• Main body of report with suitable headings and subheadings
• Conclusions
• Reference list
• Appendices (if relevant).
References: Harvard Referencing Style is required in this subject. Please visit SCU Library website for information (URL: http://www.scu.edu.au/library/finding_info/citing_info.html). You can also contact SCU librarians for assistance.

LAW100 Business Law: Major Assignment • the Case Study Question

LAW100 Business Law: Major Assignment • the Case Study Question
Ellen is a graduate of The College of Alternative Medicine and was looking to start her own business in recent past. She decided to open a meditation studio and looked around the inner city suburb of Paddington for suitable premises. She eventually found a terrace house near Oxford Street, Sydney, NSW.
The owner of the premises was willing to enter in a 12-month lease, however, Ellen waited for a week so that she could check with the local council as to the suitability of her business. Followed on, Ellen went to the council office and identified the counter marked as -Business Inquiries-.
She asked several questions to the attended council employee including a question about building work in the area. She asked: -my meditation studio requires a calm environment. Is there anything that could cause noise nearby?-.
The council officer was called away before being able to answer. Upon return the officer had a very quick look at the computer and replied to Ellen that: -relax everything will be fine-. After gathering together the council information, Ellen then signed up the lease on the next day. But, within two weeks of the opening of the meditation studio, she found that some builders' men were started working next door.
She asked one of the builders as to how long they would be working. The worker replied in that -It's a big job, a total renovation. It should take at least 6 months-. Although Ellen tried to run her meditation studio, but the noise from the building was too stressful. Clients were not happy. After a month into the lease, Ellen was so stressed by the development of construction noises from next door which resulted in a nervous disorder to her. This gave rise a threat to her career in alternative medicine. Ellen even reduced the operating hours of her meditation studio to avoid the construction noises. This reduction ultimately resulted in financial distress which caused her falling behind in paying rent for the premise.
Required:
Based on the above you are required to write a case study report (minimum length is 1,500 words). In your demonstration, not least, you must answer the following questions:
• Issue 1: Explain critically as to whether Ellen has a claim against the council in relation to the advice she had received.
• Issue 2: Has there been a breach of contract between Ellen and the Landlord for non-payment of rent?
• Issue 3: Has there been a negligent misstatement by the Council worker?
The case study must be done individually. You are required to submit the case study report in Tumitin on Moodie site of this unit and a copy to anurag@pia.edu.au by the due date.
Further Instructions:
In this exercise, students are required to apply their knowledge of Contract Law and Tort Law to analyse a business problem.
In this written report, students should identify the major legal issues, identify relevant legal rules and precedents, apply the rules to the facts and recommend a solution. Further details and additional hints of how to write the report will be provided during the term.
Legal Problem Solving
To ensure the questions have been appropriately answered and provided the required level of 'legal advice', the students should undertake the following IRAC (Issue, Rules, Application, Conclusion) method of legal problem solving as a guide to answer, not least, the following legal problems:
1. Introduction
2. Issue(s) — identify the relevant aspects that need to be resolved.
3. Rules and Relevant Law — state the relevant law (common law and/or legislation) that will be used to resolve the issue. Students should summarise the relevant law using their own words with appropriate acknowledgements of source materials and law, (i.e., referencing).
4. Application — apply the law to the facts.
5. Conclusion — There may not be a clear 'right or wrong' answer. Students should conclude by stating in whose favour the issue is likely to be resolved.
Hints: Please note that if there is more than one issue to be resolved, the IRAC method can be used to solve problems in each aspect separately. You can access the Wikipedia page below for further information on IRAC: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IRAC

The proposed qualitative question for the desired research project is; What are the different factors that hinder the transfer of clinical skills among nursing students?

The proposed qualitative question for the desired research project is;
What are the different factors that hinder the transfer of clinical skills among nursing students?
According to Creswell (2014), “Narrative Approach” follows a set of in-depth interviews to study the lives of different individuals. Consequently, the identified information leads to the development of different themes, words and illustrates the stories. Therefore, this research question will be investigated under narrative qualitative research design. Furthermore, the research approach will follow in-depth semi-structured interviews because an in depth one-to-one interview between the researcher and the respondent allows the researcher to ask many questions from the participants to collect information (Zikmund et al., 2013).  According to Mathew & Ross (2010), strengths of in-depth interview are; to follow common questions  introduction of interview questions in different ways or orders as necessary, and to allow the interviewee to answer the questions in their own way using their words (story telling) Whereas the disadvantages of in-depth interviews are; they can be very time-consuming: setting up, interviewing, transcribing, analysing, feedback, reporting they can be costly, different interviewers may understand and transcribe interviews in different ways.
In the field of nursing discipline, emerging technologies are changing the nursing practices; such as genetics and genomics; less invasive and more accurate tools for diagnosis and treatment;  3D printing; robotics; biometrics; electronic health records; and computerized physician/provider order entry and clinical decision support (CPOE). However, with these changing technologies, it is important that nurses should have the competencies to implement these technologies. For instance, nurses may lack competence towards genomes and genetics, competencies to use less invasive tools and 3D printing, the use of robotics to increase patient care, and the appropriate use of CPOE to support clinical decision making and provide best practices (Huston, 2013). Whereas the use of mixed methods, that is, both quantitative and qualitative methods will be significant to investigate into the role of emerging technologies within the nursing practice. Because this method have the following set of advantages and both the methods will complement each other in the following manner; the strengths of one approach offset the weaknesses of the other, sed properly, a combination of methods provides more comprehensive and convincing evidence, mixed methods research can answer certain research questions that a single method approach cannot, a mixed method study can encourage interdisciplinary collaboration, mixed methods encourage the use of multiple worldviews/paradigms, mixed methods research is “practical” in that it permits the usage of multiple techniques and approaches that best address the research question (Guest & Fleming, 2015).
However, mixed methods have the following set of disadvantages and these will lead to challenges within the identified clinical problem; The research design can be very complex, takes much more time and resources to plan and implement this type of research, it may be difficult to plan and implement one method by drawing on the findings of another, it may be unclear how to resolve discrepancies that arise in the interpretation of the findings (Guest & Fleming, 2015).  Keeping in view the strengths of mixed methods, qualitative methods can identify the set of current factors that contribute within the role of emerging technologies. Whereas with the use quantitative methods the level and the effect of these identified variables (factors) can be measured.  And the results will be generalized for future use.
2) Lissette Duarte:
Prevention of Postpartum Smoking Relapse
Qualitative method is explorative in nature and seeks to understand the underlying reasons, motivations and opinions. Based on this, my research question would be as follows:
Research Question: What makes women who have stopped smoking during pregnancy want to smoke again?
A qualitative research method that can be used in collecting information on this research question is questionnaires (open ended questionnaires). Questionnaires can be done through asking questions to respondents. This can be in form of a short feedback form typed in a paper or sent to participants through the email. Based on this, one advantage that questionnaire as a research method would have is by being cost effective. However, this depends on the way it will be administered. A remotely administered questionnaire via mobile devices or emails will be less expensive than ones that require travelling to administer it. Questionnaires, on the other hand, have their drawbacks. Respondents may not have something to encourage them to participate or even provide honest answers. Given that questions asked may be too much of a personal life, respondents may feel uncomfortable answering them.
Mixed method integrates both qualitative and quantitative research methods. Mixed method can be used with a population that is hard to find respondents and as such it becomes important to collect information in all means possible. A good example of this is pain management among American Indians. Mixed method is a great way of researching this topic given that there is a very small number of American Indians who visit health cares and the possibility of racial misclassification is high (Muncey, 2009). The research will be aided by advantages of mixed methods and will overcome weaknesses of each method. Strengths and weaknesses for qualitative methods include generalizability and used for large sample size while those of qualitative methods include in-depth research and small sample size. Quantitative data collected at a national level is analyzed together with qualitative data collected at an individual level (Muncey, 2009). In so doing, the weakness of one method is solved by the strength of the other.
Mixed methods presents challenges that are not there with tradition approaches. One of the challenges is that it would require twice the work to collect and analyze data. This is because both methods are applied which takes more time and resources. There is also complications that comes with the use of mixed method when it comes to collecting and analyzing data (Burrows & Read, 2015). This is especially where it comes to combining data from qualitative and quantitative research.
3) Proffesor Jorge:

Great approach, how would your questions and strengths change if you were to perform the same study using a different method?
