CIS8010_Assignment 3 SPECIFICATIONS
Description Marks out of Wtg(%) Due date
Assignment 3 (MS Project) 100 35% See the study schedule
This written assignment is to be electronically submitted through the EASE system in
the CIS8010 Study Desk. Hardcopy or email submission will NOT be accepted and
acknowledged. (You MUST use a plagiarism application to ensure that the part is
plagiarism free)
Student requirements
The objective of this assignment is to assess your understanding of basic project management
concepts and your proficiency in using project management software to produce project
charts and reports. In particular, the assignment focuses on the following project
management knowledge areas in the PMBOK: project integration management, project scope
management, project time management and project cost management.
Your task is to develop a project case for a major Health Information Systems Development.
The development is for a private hospital that offers services on a cost recovery basis. The
hospital contains 1000 beds and specializes in cardiology related services. The hospital’s
Information Systems is quite dated, coming with a number of legacy systems and the
efficiency of the systems in producing management reports is found to be lacking.
The management board decided to upgrade the Information Systems to accommodate both
fixed and mobile systems. The immediate task on hand is to develop financial modeling
aspects, Human Resource requirements, scheduling tasks, and Patient Management System
requirements. The management board would like to see an integrated, up-to-date system being
developed that can operate both on desktop computers as well as iPad like devices on a
wireless infrastructure.
The current environment doesn’t have wireless interface, and the management would like to
procure a cutting edge wireless technology infrastructure for the organisation. About 6000
employees including physicians, nurses, managers, external stakeholders and other
administrators are expected to use the system so that these can be properly considered by the
Board.
Your task is to develop a project management document to provide an initial idea and scope
as to the costs of the project. Your submission should include the following documents:
1. A complete project plan (PERT & GANTT Chart)
2. A complete Net Present Value Analysis
3. A Return on Investment Document
4. A payback Analysis Scenario
The above documents should clearly be developed using a project tool that is available to you.
You should make necessary assumptions in deciding your basis that would yield to the above
documents. You are required to state your assumptions clearly and package the documents in a
professional report to the top management for their consideration.
The management is keen to see the following technological aspects being introduced in the
organization. Your report should provide a comprehensive analysis of various options that
would result in the following:
1. The mobile access should be at least 20 M Bits per second in speed
2. The mobile architecture should support 2000 users accessing the system at the same
time, from internal or external sources
3. The data upload and download will consist of text, graphics, medical images, video
clips, video conferencing with clients in the hospital and in homes for post-operative
treatments
4. The device family will need to support smartphones, digital tablets, laptops fitted with
wireless capabilities, and other mobile devices such as telephones
5. The Information Architecture should support access to pathology systems, medical
imaging systems, patient records, radiology systems, billing systems and other
organizational systems.
Your project planning should provide details of vendors that would be able to supply hardware
architecture, software development, telecommunication costs, running costs to maintain such
systems, broadband provision, training costs and any other direct or indirect costs. These
should be thoroughly researched, and you should provide this in your report to the top
management.
The organisation, being a private healthcare provider, is interested in realizing the costs in a
short period of time. Your project cost details should be constrained in a 5-year cycle. To be
able to conduct a real cost benefit analysis, the local financial institution has provided the
following information to be able to calculate the Net Present value (NPV) of the project:
Assume a 6% discount base rate:
Periods 6%
1 0.943
2 0.890
3 0.840
4 0.792
5 0.747
6 0.700
Report Submission:
Your report submission should be in four parts. The first part should provide a comprehensive
analysis of your research. This is a simple document, written with supporting arguments as to
various aspects highlighted, includes proper references etc. You will base this report on your
research conducted to procure various hardware components, wireless architecture, software
capabilities etc. The report should be contained within 2000 words. This report is pitched to the
management board and you are asked to use simple language as board members are drawn from
both technical and non-technical domains.
The second part of the report contains the three modeling aspects. These are:
1. A complete Net Present Value Analysis including your assumptions on various
percentage values etc.
2. A Return on Investment Document
3. A payback Analysis Scenario
You must develop necessary formulas to create the above, and show how these are constructed.
You must also attach a test strategy to assure that your formulas are working correctly. You are
expected to show both correct and incorrect working details. Basically your test strategy will
demonstrate how your modeling is working. This test strategy should be contained within write a 2 to 3 pages paper
The third part of your report should provide a set of recommendations as to how the project
can be managed. This will discuss various aspects that are covered in Chapter 5 of the text. You
can choose appropriate aspects to suit your modeling techniques.
The final part is the development of a complete project plan through PERT & GANTT Chart
Other Report Submission Requirements:
For this assignment, you MUST use a plagiarism application to ensure that this assignment is
plagiarism free. Please note that the report generation can take time through TURNITIN and
you are asked to submit your assignment through TURNITIN well in advance to avoid last
minute delays.
1. Remember state your assumptions clearly prior to developing the above documents and
your modeling.
2. Only PDF formate of the final report is to be submitted through EASE system available
through UConnect. (All other mode of submissions are considered as assignment is not

Mapping and SWAT Teams, Criminal Law
The residence is a two-story building facing the west side of the municipality. Other residences surround on the north, the west, and the east sides. The residences are majorly mansions with backyards. The house to the west is bigger than the others surrounding the target location and has a swimming pool in the backyard. The target location does not have a fenced backyard that makes it an easy target to approach from the back. It is also notable that the target location has a lot of trash dumped in the backyard and a relatively small swimming pool on the east side of the backyard.
If I were heading the SWAT team, we would advance the house from the south side which is neighboring a road and easier to approach the house. The south side of the house has a limited number of windows and doesn’t have any doors. Because the side doesn’t have any doors and has a limited number of windows, it is the best to approach from because chances of been spotted are close to zero (Hess, Orthmann & Cho, 2013). If we advance from the west side, there are high chances of alarming the target. It would give them a chance to escape because of the long distance from the gate. Advancing from the east side would also be impossible because of the residence that is bordering the target location. Similarly, the north side has a residence which is bordered by a school which makes it inappropriate to advance. It leaves us with the south side that is easier to approach.
The area is wooded with many trees and plantation within the residences. Most residences in this area are fenced with trees and the rest of the have planted trees in their compound. The trees are tall and bushy and are very many in the area. The target location is wooded because they have planted trees in their fence and the compound is also heavily populated with trees and other kinds of plants. The residence also has a private garden which makes it very hard to notice someone in the compound.
There is plenty of cover in the compound because of the nature of the landscape. The residence is built on a slightly higher ground that assists in advancing.  The fact gives us the advantage of being unnoticeable from the house as we approach (Douglas, Burgess, Burgess, & Ressler, 2013). It ensures that the target does not have the chance of escaping. We will only be noticeable when at a very proximity close to 150 metres to the house. The availability of trees in the compound is also a good cover for us to advance the house undetected. The private garden has some tall plants that make a good cover for the SWAT team. The garden is only a few steps from the back door of the house and has a pathway leading to the front door of the residence.
Advancing from the rear is easy because of the garden which provides a good cover to the back door. The back door is wooden making it easier to unlock from the outside forcefully in case the residents restrain from opening the door. Nevertheless, advancing from the rear has the disadvantage of missing the target because they might leave through the front undetected in case they see us approaching (Hill & Paynich, 2013). I think this type of mapping would help in advancing from the rear, as it is the only logical way to get to the target location. However, some team members must approach the front door so the target cannot escape. The mapping strategy will be critical in assist to SWAT team in approaching the house.

Communication across the Profession
The various ways, in which the nurses can communicate innovative projects and research findings including podium and poster presentations at the nursing professional conferences.  Poster presentations would involve the use of graphical and visual aids to understand the nature of the research findings (Forsyth, Wright, Scherb & Gaspar, 2010). The presentations make it easy to communicate the nursing standards to ensure that all nursing roles are done by the health regulations and provisions.
The podium and poster presentations given at the professional nursing conferences have contributed significantly to the write my paper in nursing profession. The presentations help the audience to get information and publications which are critical communicating the standards in the nursing profession. It is important to communicate information and ideas about the nursing practice. I would also discuss the nature of changes in practice standards and guidelines. The credentialed professionals have experience about the practice to record critical data and information in the websites and reports. The information helps in improving communication of the various nursing issues to the nurses.
I would like to participate in a poster in the quality safety project, as a presenter in some future period in my nursing career.  My participation in the quality safety project conferences is appropriate in understanding the need to improve the quality of safety programs offered by the credentialed professional nurses. Individuals contribute significantly to the overall publications to the organization. The topic also relies on the contribution of specific credentialed professionals who possess significant expertise on the nursing profession.
Some of the skills I would need to have in submitting an abstract for presentation in the podium including strong communication skills both writing and verbal skills, note making skills, critical thinking skills, and advanced organization skills (Forsyth et al., 2010). It calls for an advanced understanding of the nursing findings and research outcomes to develop a good abstract. Thus, I will need to have strong reading and analysis skills to perform a quality presentation of an abstract at a conference.

Assignment Brief
As part of the formal assessment for the HNC/D programme you are required to submit an
assignment for each module. Please refer to your Student Handbook for full details of the
programme assessment scheme and general information on preparing and submitting
assignments.
After completing the module, you should be able to:
LO1: Be able to use a variety of sources for the collection of data, both primary and secondary
LO2: Understand a range of techniques to analyse data effectively for business purposes
LO3: Be able to produce information in appropriate formats for decision-making in an organizational context
LO4: Be able to use software-generated information to make decisions in an organization
Assignment Task
(CUSTOMIZED) CASE STUDY
In order to make this assignment (and thus the module) more interesting for each individual student,
rather than issue the same fixed case study for the whole group (as is traditional), I have decided to let
each student select a particular type of data or situation that interests them personally. You will thus
each use your own customized case study. Your first job is to visit one of the open data sources listed
in the embedded document below - just double click it – and browse through the various sites. Pick a
data set that really grabs your attention. These sources are open and free.
Open Data
Sources.docx
(If you have problems opening this embedded document, email the tutor)
Be sure to read the description of the data set first and click on the link so that you can see what the
data looks like ahead of downloading it. If you want to use this data set, go ahead and download the
data set (make sure you download the CSV or Excel format). Then save it to your computer ready to
process using Excel.
By doing this, you will get used to looking at and handling real-world, large-scale data sets from a
domain that interests you. So, if you are a teacher, you can use an educational data set or if you are
into cars maybe something to do with transport etc. It just makes the whole assignment more realistic
and enjoyable. It also exposes you to a set of free resources that you can use on later projects if
needed. Before committing yourself to a particular data set, read all the assignment tasks below and
make sure that your chosen data set can support the tasks requested. For example, if the data set does
not contain any numerical data you won’t be able to do all the descriptive statistics – so pick with care.
You MUST email the tutor your chosen data set in advance of commencing the assignment – certainly
within the first four weeks of the module commencing - for approval using shutchison@arden.ac.uk .
Key Points:
• Be sure to embed your Excel spreadsheet containing your chosen data set in your assignment submission.
• Provide the full web address of where to locate this data set – so I can check it if needed.
• Give a brief explanation of what the data set represents (you can use the description on their website).
Task 1: Descriptive Statistics
Using your chosen data set, produce an Excel spreadsheet of Descriptive Statistics (AC 3.1 & 4.1) to
show the following. For each, briefly explain how they can be used to draw valuable inferences for the
chosen case study:
(a) The Median for any two numerical columns of your choosing (AC 2.1, 2.3)
(b) The Mean for the same two columns (AC 2.1, 2.3)
(c) The Standard Deviation for these same columns (AC 2.1, 2.3)
(d) Draw a Histogram for each of these same columns (AC 3.1)
(e) The Correlation Coefficient between these two same columns (AC 2.4)
Be sure to include clear, well-annotated screenshots of all your Excel work in your main Word document
as well as embedding the actual Excel file in the Word file – so it can be run and tested.
Comment briefly on how these statistics relate to each other and what, if any, meaning you may infer
from them.
FORMATIVE TASK
You are welcome to submit Task 1 (only Task 1) to the tutor when completed – for general feedback.
This is an optional task – but it will give you an early opportunity to check that you are on the right lines.
Try and submit this work as early as you can but certainly within the first 4 weeks of the module.
Send it to: shutchison@arden.ac.uk
Task 2: Presentation
Once you have computed all the above statistics, prepare a Power Point Presentation (AC 3.3) entitled:
“Making Sense of the Numbers”
This will contain (fully labelled) graphical representations and trend lines, along with your interpretation
of the descriptive statistics you have just calculated – presented as a series of bullet points, charts and
graphs. As part of your presentation, be sure to comment on issues such as sample size, reliability and
any potential bias in the sample. Introduce the data set and what it means. (AC 2.1, 2.2, 2.4, 3.1, 3.3)
Make the presentation informative, logically-sequenced and visually appealing. Use a nice, eyecatching

Task 3: Beyond Open Data
Having computed and presented the statistics on your existing chosen data set, it is now time to
produce a formal business report that builds on your downloaded open data by addressing the
following tasks (AC 3.4):
(a) Create a plan of how to design and collect a robust sample of new additional data that can be
added to your existing open data set. (AC 1.1)
(b) Produce a detailed explanation of any possible secondary sources of data which would be
useful to use alongside this existing open data. Supply websites used. (AC 1.1)
(c) Present a firm justification of the survey methodology and sampling frame, including strategies
for reducing any potential bias. (AC 1.2)
(d) Design (as an appendix) a draft questionnaire that could be used in the acquisition of this new
additional data. Be sure to utilize the full range of question-styles from the module. (AC 1.3)
Task 4: Risk, Reward & Planning
(a) Using suitable data from your data set (or using your imagination) fill in the following table…
Period (Year) 0 1 2 3 4 5
Cash Outflow (£)
Cash Inflow (£)
An example table – do NOT use these figures – use your own based on your own data set or imagination…
Period (Year) 0 1 2 3 4 5
Cash Outflow (£) 600,000 400,000 150,000 100,000 50,000 50,000
Cash Inflow (£) 0 70,000 100,000 150,000 200,000 250,000
Assuming a payback period of three years as a hurdle rate for any new project and a weighted cost of
capital (WACC) of 5%, create an analysis of payback and discounted payback (use the WACC as the
discount rate) (AC 4.3)
(b) Create an analysis of the net present value (AC 4.3)
(c) Draw conclusions and make a decision based on the financial criteria (AC 2.2, 4.3 & 4.1)
Hard cash is not the only potential obstacle when considering whether or not to embark on a new
project. Any investors will need convincing that the project is feasible within a reasonable time-frame.
This is where project management, network diagrams and critical path analysis comes into play.

(d) Using your table, prepare a network diagram including a clearly highlighted critical pathway for
your series of project stages. Place this work in an appendix. Explain if the project can be
delivered on time if the acceptable time frame is 12 months or less. (AC 4.2)
Final advice:
To gain Merit and Distinction grades it is important to demonstrate that you fully understand the
underlying concepts and theoretical ideas – so you should not only write down the figures but then
explain the supporting concepts and interpret what these calculations actually mean – in a business
decision-making sense. Also, remember to fully abide by the Harvard referencing notation - see the
Study Skills section on ilearn. Make presentations polished and professional. Cover issues such as
bias when discussing samples and surveys. In short, do the ‘nuts and bolts’ calculations, explain the
underlying concepts, justify the meaning of those figures and generally give a deeper, more rounded
answer.
Student Guidelines
1. You should write this assignment using standard Microsoft Office software – to ensure that the tutor
can easily open and thus mark your work. No point doing a great assignment if the tutor cannot open
and read that work. Therefore, use MS Excel for any spreadsheet work, MS PowerPoint for any
presentation work and MS Word for the main assignment document. You should submit a SINGLE
Word document containing ALL your assignment work – so embed the spreadsheet and presentation
files as well as including appropriate (annotated) screenshots as part of your narrative. If unsure, email
your tutor. Structure your assignment in the same way as outlined here and clearly label all tasks. There
is a guide on embedding files on the discussion forum. Email me if still unsure.
2. You must ensure that the submitted assignment is all your own work and that all sources used are
correctly attributed. Penalties apply to assignments which show evidence of academic unfair practice.
(See the Student Handbook which is in the Induction Area). Please also refer to the ‘Guide to Unfair
Practice in Assessment’ on the module page on ilearn.
3. You MUST underpin your analysis and evaluation of the key issues with appropriate and wide ranging
academic research and ensure this is referenced using the Arden University (AU) Harvard system. The
My Study Skills Area contains the following useful resources:
Guide to Harvard Referencing
http://moodle.bl.rdi.co.uk/guides/HarvardRef/AU_Harvard_Quick_Ref_Guide.pdf
Guide to Harvard Citation
http://moodle.bl.rdi.co.uk/guides/HarvardRef/AU_Guide_to_Harvard_Citation.pdf
You must use the AU Harvard Referencing method in your assignment.
4. You should use diagrams and tables of figures where appropriate ensuring to reference their source
using the AU Harvard Referencing method.
5. You are required to write your assignment within 3000 words in order for your research and
summarising skills to be developed, and for effective time management. You are required to ensure
that the assignment addresses all of the assessment tasks. In the interests of good academic practice,
an assignment submitted with excessive word counts (i.e. more than 10% in excess of the limit)
will be returned to you. You will be given a maximum of 48 hours to edit the work to reduce the word
count to the permitted maximum. In the event that the submission is still regarded as excessively
long then, in line with advice received from Pearson, we will be unable to accept it for marking
and you will receive a Refer grade for Non-Submission.
The word count excludes the title page, reference list and appendices. Where assessment
questions have been reprinted from the assessment brief these will also be excluded from the word
count. ALL other printed words ARE included in the word count. Printed words include those
contained within charts and tables.
6. Your assignment should be submitted as a single document (with Excel & Power Point files
embedded). For more information please see the “Guide to Submitting an Assignment” document
available on the module page on iLearn.
